Kewaunee County Ready to Open Winter Park, Before the New Year

KEWAUNEE, WI – Winter Park in Kewaunee County is ready to welcome visitors.  The Kewaunee County Promotions & Recreation Department has made enough snow to open the Prevea Health Snow Tubing Hill with special winter break hours, ahead of opening the skiing and snowboarding runs, which is expected to happen in early January.

Special Winter Break Snow Tubing Dates/Times:
December 28, 2021 – December 30, 2021: 10AM-4PM
January 2, 2022: 11AM-5PM
(NOTE: Dates & Times are Subject to Change, Depending on Weather Conditions)

“We’re pleased to partially open Winter Park during winter break.  We luckily had a solid base on our snow tubing hill before a slight mid-December melt with temps in the 50s.  There’s always at least one curve ball from Mother Nature, but we have a dedicated staff, which works around the clock including overnights and weekends to get the park ready,” said Dave Myers, Kewaunee County Promotions & Recreation Director.  “The word is definitely out about Winter Park, and we’re always welcoming new faces.  It’s neat to hear that those who live in the area, are bringing visiting family and friends.”

Regular season public hours will begin on January 8, 2022, which will allow for snow tubing, skiing and snowboarding on Saturdays and Sundays as weather permits with the help of the Winter Park Association.

Regular Season Public Snow Tubing Hours:
Saturdays: 10AM-6PM
Sundays: 11AM-5PM

Regular Season Public Skiing & Snowboarding Hours:
Saturdays: 10AM-4PM
Sundays: 11AM-4PM

The cost for snow tubing is $10 per person for two hours, including the use of a provided snow tube for visitors 42” or taller who can ride up the Magic Carpet on their own.  The cost for skiing and snowboarding is $17 for the day for ages 7 and up, and $10 for the day for ages 6 and under, who are able to ski or snowboard.  Both ski and snowboard equipment are available onsite for an extra fee.

The Winter Park Association will host two special night events in 2022 for skiers and snowboarders.  Those will be February 5, 2022 & February 12, 2022 from 4:30PM-8PM.  Lift tickets will be $10 for anyone who hasn’t purchased a day pass on that specific day.

The past three seasons at Winter Park have had high attendance with 12,302 visitors welcomed during the 2020-21 season, 13,623 visitors at the park during the 2019-20 season, and 13,674 visitors enjoying the outdoors during the 2018-19 season.

“We’ve been having great success at Winter Park, but that’s not the only attraction bringing over new visitors.  The Dana Farm Ice Rink, which opened in 2021 thanks to a partnership with Kewaunee County Farm Technology Days, brought out hundreds of skaters to the area as well during its first season,” said Jennifer Gonzalez, Kewaunee County Tourism Coordinator.  “The Dana Farm Ice Rink is a free amenity.  Visitors just need to bring their own skates.  And, if the ice rink continues to be popular, the Kewaunee County Promotions & Recreation Department may create a second rink on the property.”

Once the Dana Farm Ice Rink opens, which will most likely be in January 2022, visitors will be allowed to skate 7-days a week from the hours of 9AM-8PM, as long as the temperature is below 32 degrees.
