Kewaunee County Installs a Storybook Trail at Bruemmer Park & Zoo

KEWAUNEE, WI – Bruemmer Park & Zoo is about to be a bit more enchanted as the Kewaunee County Promotion & Recreation Department is in the process of installing a storybook trail, and the public is invited to its special unveiling with the book’s author.

There will be 18 stops along the handicap accessible trail, which begins at the playground and loops around the back of the upper portion of the zoo, telling the story of Sidney the Bear, a children’s book, written and illustrated by Janet Tlachac-Toonen.

On Thursday, July 28, 2022 at 11:00 a.m.  at Bruemmer Park & Zoo, E4280 CTH F, Kewaunee, the public is welcome to walk the trail and read along as well as enjoy cookies and lemonade with Tlachac-Toonen, who will be available to greet guests.

This special addition to Bruemmer Park & Zoo was made possible by the Door County Board of REALTORS®, which received a $5,000 “Placemaking Grant” from the National Association of REALTORS® for the project.

“The storybook trail is another awesome amenity that pairs perfectly with the aesthetic of Bruemmer Park & Zoo.  It fits right in with the African Animal Statue Garden, and compliments the park’s direction moving forward, which includes an inclusive playground,” said Dave Myers, Kewaunee County Promotion & Recreation Director.  “Bruemmer Park & Zoo is really transforming into a beautiful community park fit for all ages and abilities, thanks to all of the gracious donors, past and present.”
