Kewaunee County Starts Snowmaking Process at Winter Park

KEWAUNEE, WI - The Kewaunee County Promotion & Recreation staff has temporarily fired up the snow guns at Winter Park to begin the snowmaking process at the snow tubing, skiing, and snowboarding destination along the lakeshore.

The job typically takes a few weeks to complete with temperatures below freezing, before Winter Park can officially open to skiers, snowboarders and snow tubers.

“We’re not expecting to open until late December at the earliest, but we wanted to take advantage of the cold snap that we’re experiencing now to get an adequate base of snow,” says Dave Myers, Kewaunee County Promotion & Recreation Director.  “While it was nice to have Mother Nature cooperate with us this early, we will soon be taking a break from snowmaking until December, when it cools back down.”

Winter Park consists of five snow tubing lanes with a Magic Carpet for transportation to the top of the hill, five skiing/snowboarding runs equipped with a T-Bar lift, and a beginner-friendly skiing/snowboarding hill that is expected to have a tow rope system in place before the upcoming season.

“The Winter Park Association and the Kewaunee County Promotion & Recreation Department continue to add more each year and it’s paying off,” says Jennifer Gonzalez, Kewaunee County Tourism Coordinator.  “There is no doubt that word is spreading about Winter Park as we start a new season followed by record breaking attendance.”

Winter Park welcomed more than 11,000 visitors who hailed from 20 different states in just nine weeks from December 2017 to February 2018.
